2006 Property Tax Bills in the Mail

Tax Assessor Roy L. Martin advises property owners that they can expect to begin receiving their 2006 property tax bills later this week.   These bills will be issued to the property owner of record as of January 1, 2007.   Attorney General Vincent Frazer has determined that the issuance of the 2006 bills by the Division of Property Tax is in accordance with Act No. 6991, the recently enacted property tax legislation, and other applicable statutory provisions.

Martin also advises taxpayers eligible for the circuit breaker tax credit that they may still apply for that credit upon receiving their 2006 bill.  Property owners are eligible for the circuit breaker credit if their tax bills have increased by 125% or more on their homestead or unimproved property and their gross income is less than $135,000.  The application deadline has passed for other tax credits.

Property taxes can be paid at the Tax Collector’s Offices at the following locations:

St. John:  Former Department of Finance location, Cruz Bay
St. Thomas:  Builders Emporium (behind the Medical Foundation)
St. Croix:  1131 King Street, Suite #101 (Christiansted)
4008 Est. Diamond (Department of Finance, Mid-island)
Lagoon Street Commercial Building No. 1 (Frederiksted)

Payments can be made in person or by mail.  Checks, cash, money orders or credit cards (Visa and MasterCard only) are accepted.  Persons submitting their payments by mail should not send cash for their own security.
