CMS Officials Visit Territory to Meet with
Medicare Beneficiaries, Gov’t Agencies
Lieutenant Governor Gregory R. Francis announces that officials from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will be in the Territory later this week to meet with several government agencies and officials as well as the general community on issues dealing with the administering of the Medicare and Medicaid programs.
VI SHIP Director/Medicare Coordinator Rena Sarauw said the officials will be part of a larger delegation from the Department of Health and Human Services that will visit the U.S. Virgin Islands to discuss initiatives that can assist the Territory in strengthening the availability and delivery of its health and human services to include funding opportunities still available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009.
The delegation will meet with staff from the Office of the Governor, members of the Cabinet, and representatives from the VI Senate’s Committee on Health and Human Services on March 18, 2010. The following day, on March 19, 2010, CMS officials will attend and participate in a town hall meeting coordinated by VI SHIP to hear directly from Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers. The meeting will be held at the Anna’s Retreat Center on St. Thomas from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. All Medicare beneficiaries, their caregivers, family members, coming-of-agers and the general public are encouraged to come out and share their concerns regarding Medicare. For more information, contact VI SHIP at 714-4354.
VI SHIP is a program federally funded by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and locally administered by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor.
