Lt. Gov. Francis Helps Elementary School Students Cleanup St. Croix Beach
Lt. Governor Gregory R. Francis recently joined a team of 5th and 6th graders from the Juanita Gardine Elementary School in cleaning up a Christiansted, St. Croix area beach. The beach clean-up was part of the International Coastal Cleanup or Coastweeks that is internationally organized by Ocean Conservancy.
Francis joined the students in picking up trash on the waterfront across from the D. Hamilton Jackson Terrace “Red Brick” housing community. Francis swam at the beach as a child.
This is the second Coastweeks cleanup that Francis has participated in. He recently pitched in to help the Trashbusters, a group of students from the St. Croix Educational Complex, clean the Altona Lagoon in Christiansted.
Francis believes that the entire community has a responsibility to take better care of our beaches, reefs and protected areas. “I want future generations to be able to enjoy our beaches as much as I have,” he says.
At the beach cleanup, Lt. Governor Francis helped teachers and chaperones to organize the students and helped the students to clear litter from the shoreline.
