Lt. Governor Francis and Governor deJongh Continue Christmas Tradition
Lt. Governor Gregory R. Francis joined Governor John P. deJongh, Jr. and First Lady Cecile deJongh in a pre-Three King’s day celebration at the Queen Louise Home for Children in Frederiksted, St. Croix.The Lt. Governor and the deJonghs, including son Julian, presented gifts to the children of the Queen Louise Home on Friday, January 4, 2008, the day of the Children’s Festival Parade.The gift presentation to the children on the day of the parade is a long-standing tradition that is being upheld by the deJongh/Francis team.
Queen Louise is presently home to 22 children, ranging in age from one to eleven years old.In remarks made before the start of the presentation, both Lt. Governor Francis and Governor deJongh expressed their pleasure at continuing the gift-giving tradition.“Christmas is about love, sharing and giving thanks for what God has given us,” said Lt. Governor Francis.
Junia Straker, CEO of Queen Louise, welcomed the Governor and Lt. Governor to the home.The presentation was also attended by Department of Human Services Commissioner Chris Finch and Mrs. Edith Galiber, mother of First Lady Cecile deJongh.The children’s gifts were personally selected by Governor and Mrs. deJongh’s youngest child, Julian.
