Lt. Gov. Francis Selected as Member of the Month of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) has selected Lieutenant Governor Gregory R. Francis as its member of the month for November 2007. Lt. Governor Francis became the Virgin Islands Commissioner of Insurance upon his inauguration and by virtue of his role overseeing the Division of Banking and Insurance. As Commissioner of Insurance, his primary responsibility is to protect the interests of insurance consumers.
Lt. Governor Francis said he was pleased with the selection and assures the public that he and his staff are committed to elevating the customer service standards of their office and the local insurance industry. The Division of Banking and Insurance regulates the activities of insurance companies and insurance related businesses and enforces insurance laws.
“We are dedicated to working with the insurance industry with the ultimate goal of better insurance products and service for our community,” Francis said.
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners is a regulatory support organization comprised of insurance regulators from the 50 states, the District of Columbia and the territories. It was created in 1871 to address the need to coordinate regulation of multi-state insurers. The organization has since moved forward in its mission to protect the public interest and promote competitive markets by supporting and improving the regulation of insurance.
