Lt. Governor Offers Words of Advice to Head Start Students and their Parents
Lieutenant Governor Gregory R. Francis engaged pre-school children and presented hearty words of advice to their parents at the End-of-the-Year ceremonies at the Mount Pleasant II Head Start Center on Friday, June 13, 2008.
Speaking first to the group of Head Starters, Lt. Governor Francis implored them to always be honest.
“Remember to tell the truth every time. No matter what,” he instructed. “And as you continue in school, listen to your teachers.”
He also encouraged the students to study hard and do well, but saved most of his remarks for the group of parents gathered.
Stressing the importance of being a positive influence in the lives of their children, he reminded them that children learn what they live.
“Whatever you do as adults, children will follow you,” Lt. Governor Francis said. “Help them to be good citizens of the community.”
He recalled stories of his childhood, demonstrating that back then the whole family was involved in the upbringing of children.
“We need to go back to that,” Lt. Governor Francis stated, paying homage to the old adage “it takes a village to raise a child.”
Finally, Lt. Governor Francis left parents with some simple instructions. “Talk to your children. Tell them that you love them and that you’ll always be there for them.”
About 15 students participated in the End of the Year ceremonies.
