5% Early Payment Discount Extended; Offices to Open on Saturday, August 6th to Accommodate Property Tax Payers
Lieutenant Governor Gregory R. Francis has extended the deadline for the 5 percent early payment discount to Saturday, August 6, 2011 in order to accommodate property owners who are seeking to take advantage of the early payment discounts for the 2008 property taxes. Tax Collector Offices located at Government House, Christiansted on St. Croix and at Builder’s Emporium on St. Thomas will open on Saturday, August 6th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to accept payments.
According to Lt. Governor Francis, the deadline extension enables the office to accommodate property owners who have expressed their intent to take advantage of the early payment discount. “Our office hours were extended due to the community’s overwhelming response to the discount that is offered.” Francis stated. “Extending the deadline and opening on Saturday will allow property owners who are unable to visit our offices during regular working hours to also have this opportunity to save.”
The 5 percent discount for the 2008 property taxes was originally set to expire on Friday, August 5th. A discount of 2.5% will apply to payments made after August 6th through the bill due date of August 20th.
