Lt. Governor’s Passport Office Officials Attend Opening of San Juan Passport Agency
The newly opened San Juan Passport Agency is expected to be a resource for Virgin Islanders who may have traveling emergencies, says Raymond J. Williams, Chief of Staff for the Office of the Lieutenant Governor. Williams and the Passport Office District Directors Barbara Acoy (St. Croix) and Tina Callwood (St. Thomas/St. John) traveled to San Juan, Puerto Rico on Wednesday, February 5 to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony and formal dedication of the San Juan Passport Agency.
“The existence of the Puerto Rico office should streamline the emergency application process and hopefully alleviate some of the stress experienced by Virgin Islanders who need a passport in a hurry,” Williams stated. According to Williams, travelers needing emergency passport services will now have the option of making an appointment with the Puerto Rico office and then traveling to that office to process their application. Regular and expedited passport applications accepted by the Lieutenant Governor’s Office will continue to be processed in Miami, Florida.
Attendance at the dedication of the San Juan Passport Agency enabled the District Directors to meet and network with their Puerto Rican counterparts and many State Department officials. “We look forward to collaborating with the San Juan Office on training and ways that we can improve our service to the Virgin Islands community,” said Williams.
The ribbon cutting was attended by the Puerto Rico Secretary of State David Bernier Rivera, David P. Giamellaro, Assistant Director of the San Juan Passport Agency and representatives from the U.S. State Department including Patrick F. Kennedy, Under Secretary of State for Management, and Florence Fultz, Managing Director for Passport Services.
