Medicare Proposed Rules Regarding Quality of Care Complaints Can Be Viewed on Lt. Governor’s Office Website
Lieutenant Governor Gregory R. Francis is encouraging Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers, family members and persons who will soon be age-eligible for Medicare to review and comment on proposed rules which would require beneficiaries to receive written notice of their right to lodge quality of care complaints. The proposed rules have been issued by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
“The delivery of services, particularly in Medicare, is a significant component of our healthcare reform goals throughout the territory,” said Lt. Governor Francis, who serves as Chairman of the Healthcare Reform Implementation Task Force and is the territory’s Commissioner of Insurance. “The proposed rules would enable beneficiaries to be more proactive in the care they receive, simply by providing them with information regarding their right to lodge quality of care complaints. This represents a significant opportunity for Virgin Islanders to be directly involved in improving the Medicare program.”
The proposed rules can be accessed at www.ltg.gov.vi. The comment period ends on April 3, 2011.
