Passport Office Participates in Voter Registration Drive PDF Print

The St. Croix Passport Office recently participated in an Elections Expo that enabled them to serve passport applicants who would generally be unable to visit the office during regular business hours.   The Elections Expo, which was held on October 4, 2008, was sponsored by the Board of Elections.

Barbara Acoy, Supervisor of the St. Croix Passport Office, says the office accepted about twenty (20) new or renewal applications.  “This is something we should do on a regular basis,” she said.  Ms. Acoy says that applications usually aren’t accepted outside of the office.

Chief of Staff Raymond Williams, who is also the Chair of the St. Croix Board of Elections, was pleased that the Lieutenant Governor’s Office was able to participate and assist the community in filing passport applications.  “This effort is indicative of the Lt. Governor’s commitment to service and outreach to our community,” Williams noted.  “My thanks to Passport Supervisor Barbara Acoy and Cashier Supervisor Anita Bright for volunteering their time to do this civic duty.”

Approximately 200 people either registered to vote or renewed their voter registration through their attendance at the Expo.  Participants also took part in voter machine demonstrations.

Both Acoy and Williams are committed to doing more outreach to make passport services more accessible to the community.
