STX Passport Office Serves the Public at the 2010 Agriculture Fair
For two days over the course of the President’s Day weekend, employees of the St. Croix Passport Office greeted and served passport applicants attending the St. Croix Agriculture Fair. Participation at the Fair is part of the ongoing outreach efforts of the Lt. Governor’s Office to reach those residents who may be unable to visit the Passport Office during business hours.
This is the second year that the Passport Office has participated in the Agriculture Fair. More than twenty people took advantage of the opportunity to apply for their passports while they enjoyed the variety of activities offered at the Fair. Travel regulations that went into effect last year require U.S. citizens entering the United States at sea or land ports of entry to have a passport, passport card, or other travel document approved by the U.S. Government. Persons traveling by air outside of the U.S. must also have a passport in order to enter or re-enter the country. Although passports are not required for travel solely between the United States and its territories, to include the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, it is highly recommended one is highly recommended.
Over the next few weeks, the Lieutenant Governor’s Office will improve the level of service offered to the Virgin Islands community by opening a passport office in Frederiksted and its participation in Passport Day, which is scheduled for March 27, 2010.
