STX & STT Passport Offices to Open on Saturday

Lieutenant Governor Gregory R. Francis is reminding the general public that in recognition of Passport Day 2010, the passport offices located at Government House in Christiansted, St. Croix and at Nisky Center on St. Thomas will be open on Saturday, March 27, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. These offices are joining passport agencies and acceptance facilities across the nation in hosting passport-related events.

“This is an advantageous time for residents wishing to beat the summer rush, those unable to visit the offices on weekdays, and parents with children, to use the Saturday opening to apply for or renew their passports,” Lt. Governor Francis said.

He also reminds residents that State Department regulations require that U.S. citizens entering the United States at sea or land ports of entry must have a passport, passport card, or other travel document approved by the U.S. Government.  Persons traveling by air outside of the U.S. must also have a passport in order to enter or re-enter the country. A passport is not required for travel between the United States and its territories, including Puerto and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Residents wishing to apply for passport on Passport Day are alerted that in addition to the completed passport application, applicants are also required to provide proof of citizenship and identity, two 2x2 photos and associated fees.  Additional requirements apply for minor children.  Copies of the passport application are available at the Office of the Lieutenant Governor or online at www.ltg.gov.vi. For more information contact the Passport Office on St. Croix at (340)773-6449 or on St. Thomas at (340) 774-4024.
