As we celebrate a Mother’s Day unlike any other, I join the entire Virgin Islands in extending sincere greetings to all mothers in the Territory. We are reminded of the importance of a mother’s love, sacrifice, and strength.

The hardest job is that of a parent, and the role of a mother extends far beyond the label of child-bearer. There are innate qualities that emerge at the start of motherhood that provide a blanket of care, comfort, and compassion.

The bond between a mother and child is unlike any other. A mother’s love is endless; it knows no limits. Motherhood encompasses a collection of mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, and foundational aspects. The respect, appreciation, and admiration I have for mothers stems from my relationship with my own mother, who has shown me infinite love and support throughout my life and has taught me the true meaning of unconditional love.

Mothers serve as our protectors, often putting the needs of their children above their own. Mothers are our shoulders to lean on and hands to hold. Mothers are our lifelong teachers, source of inspiration, and pillars of hope. No matter the age of a child, a mother continues to guide and support in unwavering ways.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, mothers are on the frontlines in various professions of public service. Their duties do not end at work but continue at home with parental responsibilities. To the mothers, matriarchs, grandmothers, and queens in our lives we say thank you. We cherish and adore you for all that you do.

May you be surrounded by love, happiness, and joy this Mother’s Day. Continue to be blessed in all aspects of your daily lives.
