WELCOME TO THE DIVISION OF NOTARIES PUBLIC
The Division of Notaries Public oversees the appointment, regulation, and compliance of notaries who authenticate essential documents and administer oaths throughout the United States Virgin Islands.
This division, which reports to the Office of the Lieutenant Governor’s Legal Counsel, plays a vital role in ensuring the integrity and trustworthiness of public document authentication in the Virgin Islands. A notary public is a responsible individual authorized by the Lieutenant Governor to:
- Authenticate the signing of important legal documents to deter fraud and ensure proper execution.
- Administer oaths and affirmations, serving as an impartial witness during legal attestation processes.
- Ensure licensed notaries maintain high standards of conduct and accountability.
The Division of Notaries Public is also responsible for licensing notaries public, educating them on their duties and legal responsibilities, and enforcing adherence to all notary regulations. This ensures that all notarizations within the Virgin Islands meet legal requirements and are valid for use in legal, business, and personal matters.
If you are seeking to become a new notary public in the United States Virgin Islands, applications are currently not being accepted due to statutory limits. Existing notaries may still renew their commissions as usual. For ongoing updates or further inquiries, it is best to refer directly to the Office of the Lieutenant Governor’s Notaries Public Division. This ensures compliance with the law governing the number of active notaries and maintains orderly administration of notarial services within the territory. This official status reflects current Virgin Islands law and administrative policy under Title 3 V.I.C. § 771 (a).
If you need further details or assistance, the Division of Notaries Public can be reached during business hours Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Sincerely,
The Division of Notaries Public
Effective immediately, Pursuant to Title 3, VIC, Chapter 29, s. 771(a), The Division of Notaries Public will not be accepting new notary applications.
