LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR ROACH REMINDS GOVERNMENT OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS RETIREES OF MEDICARE OPEN ENROLLMENT DEADLINE

Lieutenant Governor Tregenza A. Roach, Esq. reminds all Medicare beneficiaries who are Government of the Virgin Islands retirees of the ongoing open enrollment period and available benefit forums. At the 2022 Retiree Benefit Forums, Medicare beneficiaries will be able to receive information from partnering vendors and healthcare providers regarding the 2023 Medicare Advantage PPO Premium Plan coverage.

The open enrollment benefit forums are hosted by the Division of Personnel and will take place Territory-wide to explain benefit plans available to retirees of the Government Insurance Plan (GIP). Retirees interested in making changes to their GIP must do so by September 16, 2022.

Retirees who are turning 65 years old and need to enroll in this plan should contact the Division of Personnel Group Health Insurance Unit at 340-714-5000. Retirees must have their Medicare ID number (located on the Medicare card) available.

Individuals who are turning 65 years old, must contact their former employer to enroll at least 30 days prior to their 65th birthday to prevent a break in their coverage.

Medicare beneficiaries who are not eligible for enrollment in the Medicare Advantage Plan may contact the Virgin Islands State Health Insurance Assistance Program (VI/SHIP) Medicare for information on available Medicare Part D & Supplement Plans.

The VISHIP/Medicare office can be reached at 340-774-2991, extension 4507 for the St. Thomas/St. John District or 340-773-6449, extensions 3151 or 3152 for the St. Croix District.
